A Latter-day Saint Stake Conference is a twice per year (every 6 months) meeting, of members from multiple congregations (8-12 congregations called wards) within a geographic area known as a stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The term “stake” is derived from Isaiah 54:2 in the Bible:
“Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.”
This scripture uses the image of a tent—where stakes are driven into the ground to anchor and stabilize the structure. In a spiritual sense, the Church uses this metaphor to describe how stakes support and strengthen the expanding “tent” or kingdom of God on earth.
What Happens at a Stake Conference?
Stake conferences are spiritual gatherings that typically include:
- Talks and testimonies from stake presidency members, youth, invited speakers, and sometimes visiting general authorities.
- Instruction and inspiration on gospel topics such as faith in Jesus Christ, family life, missionary work, and service.
- Music from stake choirs or congregational hymns.
- Leadership training (usually during a special Saturday session for leaders such as bishops, Women’s Relief Society presidencies, etc.).
- No other church meetings occur during conference.
Generally the Saturday meetings are reserved for afternoon leadership training and adult evening instruction
The Sunday session of conference (10:00 am-12:00pm) is for the whole family
Look for more specifics as the date approaches. Stake conferences may be broadcast via Zoom or YouTube for remote viewing upon request.
