Church of Jesus Christ discontinues Saturday evening session of general conference beginning 2026
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Wednesday November 19, 2025 it will no longer hold a Saturday evening session during general conferences.
The First Presidency announced the change on Wednesday, saying it will take effect starting April 2026. General conference will instead consist of four daytime sessions.

Elder Clark G. Gilbert Is Called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Elder Clark G. Gilbert is the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and ordained on Thursday, February 12, by President Dallin H. Oaks and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Elder Gilbert, 55, was born in Oakland, California, and spent most of his childhood in Phoenix, Arizona. He has served as a General Authority Seventy since April 2021 and as the Commissioner of the Church Educational System since August of that year.
“This is an amazing time to point people to the Savior Jesus Christ,” Elder Gilbert said on Thursday. “When we do that, we can find joy and comfort and peace in Him. As President [Russell M.] Nelson once said, it’s much harder to find happiness where it doesn’t exist. And we’re so grateful that I have this calling now to witness that Jesus is the Christ. If people all across the world will look to Him, He will make their lives better, more meaningful, more joyful. And it happens in and through our Savior Jesus Christ.”
From his earliest days, Elder Gilbert said his parents nurtured the idea that the gospel of Jesus Christ and education are naturally intertwined.
“They never made me think that education and the gospel were decoupled in any way — the more you have faith, the more you want to learn and grow, and the more you learn and grow, the deeper your faith can become,” he said in 2021.
His faith and his education received a powerful boost during his time at Brigham Young University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1994 in international relations.
His time at BYU was special because, he added, “for the first time, I felt the expanded strength of the Church, and it was directly tied to my growth academically.”
Elder Gilbert continued his studies at Stanford (a master’s degree in East Asian studies in 1995) and Harvard (a doctorate in business administration in 2001). While he then joined Harvard’s faculty, his dream was always to teach at BYU.
That opportunity came, though at a different BYU.
Harvard colleague and mentor Kim B. Clark, who had become president of BYU–Idaho, invited Elder Gilbert and his wife, Christine, to consider bringing their gifts to Rexburg, Idaho. President Clark’s invitation included a challenge to “help us rethink Church education on a global scale.”
The Gilberts left Harvard Business School in 2006 and headed to BYU–Idaho.
The new Apostle’s professional experience was rooted in mentoring students, navigating the ever-changing world of communication technology and building and leading large organizations. After three years of helping students at BYU–Idaho, he filled assignments as CEO of Deseret Digital Media (2009), president of Deseret News (2010), president of BYU–Idaho (2015), and inaugural president of the global online offering known as BYU–Pathway Worldwide (2017) — an assignment he held until his call to full-time Church service.
His service as Commissioner of the Church Educational System involved oversight of BYU, BYU–Idaho, BYU–Hawaii, Ensign College, BYU–Pathway Worldwide and Seminaries and Institutes of Religion.
An experience with inner-city Latter-day Saint youth during his time in Boston proved pivotal as he helped bring educational opportunities to broader audiences as the first president of BYU–Pathway Worldwide — an innovative and spiritually based educational initiative sponsored by the Church.
While those Boston youth were new to the Church and its teachings and expectations, he said, he learned the key to helping them grow was to focus on their potential.
“Their growth in the gospel was gradual but steady,” Elder Gilbert explained in general conference. “Today they have served missions, have graduated from college, have been married in the temple, and are leading remarkable personal and professional lives.”
While discussing the success of BYU–Pathway several years ago with a nationally prominent educator, Elder Gilbert explained that the fruits of the program are its focus on each student’s divine potential. Since its beginning in 2009, BYU–Pathway has served more than 288,000 students in more than 180 countries.
Throughout his educational leadership, Elder Gilbert has emphasized helping each learner grow in Christ. He taught that “in this Church, we believe in the divine potential of all of God’s children and in our ability to become something more in Christ.” He said that while people begin life in different circumstances, “in the Lord’s timing, it is not where we start but where we are headed that matters most,” a principle that shaped his work with students around the globe.
“One of the miracles of this, the Lord’s Church, is that each of us can become something more in Christ,” Elder Gilbert said. “I know of no other organization that gives its members more opportunities to serve, give back, repent, and become better people. Whether we start in abundant or difficult circumstances, let us keep our sights and our slopes pointed heavenward. As we do, Christ will lift us to a higher place.”
In addition to his professional and educational leadership, Elder Gilbert served in a number of Church callings, including full‑time missionary in the Japan Kobe Mission, elders quorum president, counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and Area Seventy.
He and Christine were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1994. They are the parents of eight children.

Adjustments to the Scriptures
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/about-the-scriptures/adjustments?lang=eng
Throughout the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, leaders and members have reverenced the text of the scriptures and deepened their understanding by using study helps such as dictionaries, cross-references, and the historical information given in chapter and section headings. The scriptures as we know them today have undergone careful revisions and subtle improvements, introduced gradually through numerous editions.
In 2013, the Church prepared new printing masters of the scriptures because the printing masters of the 1979 edition of the Bible and the 1981 edition of the triple combination had deteriorated due to age and long use. In the process of preparing new printing masters, the Church took the opportunity to make adjustments. In 2025, the Church made some additional adjustments to section introductions of the Doctrine and Covenants to reflect the latest historical findings, as well as minor clarifying adjustments to two Book of Mormon summaries.

55 New Missions
Where will you serve?

Focus on Five
Thank you for your participation in Stake Conference. We were truly blessed with an outpouring of the Spirit and were edified together. We appreciate all who participated in any way to help make it a successful conference.
As a reminder, President Glenn challenged each of us to focus on and do a little better in the following areas:
We promise you will see positive changes, even miracles, in your life as you earnestly strive to follow these recommendations. Our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ want to bless each of us. They provide us various means and opportunities to grow closer to them, but that generally requires that we put forth effort to “come unto [them]”?
We love you and simply want you to find the joy that only comes through Jesus Christ.
Warmly,
Stake Presidency

Salt Lake City, Temple Open House – April to October 2027
On February 14, 1853, a groundbreaking ceremony in Salt Lake City began a 40-year journey of faith and sacrifice, culminating in the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple in 1893.
A current and comprehensive renovation to strengthen this sacred house of the Lord for future generations is now nearing completion.
Exactly 172 years after the groundbreaking ceremony, I am delighted to announce that the temple will reopen for tours during a public open house from April to October 2027.
We warmly invite our friends to come and learn about God’s plan for His children and rejoice in the love of Jesus Christ. Details about this event will be shared as April 2027 approaches.
As houses of the Lord now dot the earth, I invite you to cherish your time and service at the temples closest to you as we prepare for the reopening of the Salt Lake Temple in 2027.
Sincerely,
President Russell M. Nelson

Stake Presidency Temple Recommend Interviews – Sundays 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Begin the temple recommend process with your ward Bishop. Stake Presidency interviews are usually held Sundays (unless announced otherwise) on a walk-in basis at the Mountain View Stake offices, located at 1550 N. Val Vista Dr., Mesa. It is suggested to be in your Sunday dress. Entering the house of the Lord is a sacred privilege. Ward and stake leaders encourage all members to be worthy of and to have a current temple recommend even if they do not live near a temple.
Church leaders make every effort to see that all who enter the house of the Lord are worthy to do so (see Psalm 24:3–5).
Members must have a current temple recommend to enter a temple.
There are three types of recommends:
- Temple recommend for unendowed members. These recommends are for unendowed members who are being sealed to their parents or performing proxy baptisms and confirmations.
- Temple recommend for living ordinances. These recommends are for members receiving their own endowment or being sealed to a spouse.
- Temple recommend for endowed members. These recommends are for members who have previously been endowed. They authorize a member to participate in all temple ordinances for the deceased. They are also used when an endowed member is sealed to living or deceased parents or children.

Electronic Temple Recommends
Temple worthy members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints could soon have the the option of having the temple recommend card on their phone.
According to a Church spokesperson, the rollout began Thursday with some areas getting the option to receive the sacred document on their phone. The rollout is being done in stages with Brazil, Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, North America Southwest, North America West, South America Northwest, South America South having the option available to members.
“Church members may choose one of these options, to allow them to enter a temple. For those who opt for an electronic recommend, it will be available on the Member Tools app on their phone or tablet that can be scanned at any of the Church’s temples,” a spokesperson from the Church explained.
The hope is to increase temple attendance.
“With this additional recommend option, the Church hopes it will improve and simplify the experience for all who attend the temple,” the Church said in the emailed statement.

Family Stories Can Start Gospel Conversations
As you talk about your family or help friends discover their own stories, you can help them open their hearts to the influence of the Holy Ghost, build relationships of trust, and help them see that we are all children of our Heavenly Father.
Sharing …
- A sweet or funny memory about home evening.
- A family tradition.
- Memories of a family member who passed away
Can lead to a discussion about…
1. What home evening is and why you value family time so much.
2. How that tradition is rooted in a gospel principle such as keeping the Sabbath day holy.
3. Your belief that families can be together forever.
Who could you share a family story with?

2025 Mountain View Stake Seminary Graduates
Congratulations to the 2025 Mountain View Stake Seminary graduating class.
Students completed four years (or equivalent) of approved Seminary courses during high school. These typically followed a rotation:
- Old Testament
- New Testament
- Book of Mormon
- Doctrine and Covenants / Church History
They earned at least 75% attendance and participation in each course. Additional requirements include doctrinal mastery and assessment; scripture reading and were expected to live Church standards.
Fulfilling the graduation requirements can help youth deepen their conversion to the Savior Jesus Christ as they regularly attend class, participate in class, and begin to establish a lifelong pattern of daily scripture study.
